Mayor Eric Adams, along with senior administration officials, held a briefing at New York City Emergency Management Headquarters to discuss the earthquake felt in the greater New York City area this morning.
Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy opened the briefing, reassuring citizens that while the 4.8 magnitude earthquake was felt, there were no major impacts reported. The city’s emergency teams swiftly coordinated efforts across agencies to ensure public safety.

Commissioner Zach Iscol from the Emergency Management Department provided updates on response protocols, urging citizens to report any damage or life safety issues to 311.

Commissioner James Oddo from the Department of Buildings urged construction professionals to inspect their sites for any potential damage and report issues promptly.
Leaders from utility companies, including ConEd and the MTA, confirmed no impacts on critical infrastructure, though encouraged reporting of gas leaks or abnormal situations.
The briefing concluded with reassurance from Commissioner Manuel Castro from the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs in Spanish, emphasizing the importance of staying calm and following safety protocols.
Despite temporary communication challenges due to increased call volumes, officials assured that the city’s systems were managing effectively.
