واشنگٹن ڈی سی ( اردو نیوز ) امریکہ میں پاکستانی سفیر ڈاکٹر اسد مجید خان نے امریکی سینٹ کی فارن ریلیشنز ذیلی کمیٹی برائے جنوبی ایشیاءکے چئیرمین سینیٹر مٹ رومنی سے کیپیٹل ہل پر ملاقات کی ۔ ملاقات کے دوران پاک امریکہ تعلقات ، جنوبی ایشیاءکی صورتحال سمیت اہم امور پر بات چیت ہوئی ۔ سینیٹررومنی سے بات کرتے ہوئے ڈاکٹراسد مجید نے کہا کہ پاکستان امریکہ کے ساتھ وسیع البنیاد، طویل المدتی تعلقات چاہتا ہے اور یہ تعلقات جنوبی ایشاءمیں استحکام کے حوالے سے خصوصی اہمیت کے حامل ہیں ۔ سفیر نے سینیٹررومنی کو حالیہ پاک بھارت تناو، بھارتی جارحیت اور جنگی جنون کی وجہ سے خطے میں پیدا شدہ حالیہ صورتحال سے بھی آگاہ کیا ۔انہوں نے بتایا کہ وزیر اعظم پاکستان عمران خان نے حالیہ صورتحال میں کیسے پختگی کا مظاہرہ کیا ، بھارت کو بار باربات چیت کی دعوت دی اور خیر سگالی کے طور پر بھارتی پائلٹ کو بلا تاخیر بھارت کے حوالے کر دیا ۔ انہوں نے پاک بھارت حالیہ کشیدگی کے دوران صدر ٹرمپ کی انتظامیہ کے کردارکو بھی سراہا۔
ڈاکٹراسد مجید نے کہا کہ جنوبی ایشاءمیں مستقل اور دیر پا امن کے لئے مسلہ کشمیر سمیت دوطرفہ تنازعات کا حل ہونا ضروری ہے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان تمام معاملات اور تنازعات بات چیت اور مذاکرات کے ذریعے طے کرنے کے اپنے اصولی موقف پر قائم ہے ۔
سینیٹر رومنی نے کہا کہ پاکستان اور امریکہ کے دوران دوطرفہ اور دیگر امور پر مسلسل روابط اور بات چیت نہایت اہمیت کی حامل ہے اور اسے یقینی بنائے رکھنا چاہئیے ۔

Ambassador meets Sen. Mitt Romney
Amb. Asad M. Khan met former presidential candidate and Republican Senator Mitt Romney on Capitol Hill today.
Sen. Romney has recently assumed Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on South Asia. He also serves on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee as well as the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions and the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committees.
The Ambassador said that Pakistan desired a long-term and broad-based partnership with the United States, which had historically been a factor for stability in South Asia. He also briefed Sen. Romney on the regional situation in the backdrop of recent tensions between Pakistan and India.
Amb. Khan noted that the restraint and maturity shown by Pakistan’s leadership, highlighted by Prime Minister Imran Khan’s decision to release the pilot of a downed Indian aircraft, had been critical to de-escalating the situation between Pakistan and India. He also appreciated the role played by the Trump Administration in this regard.
The Ambassador cautioned that lasting peace and stability in South Asia would remain elusive as long as India continues to deny the people of Occupied Kashmir their legitimate right to self-determination. He reiterated Pakistan’s desire to resolve the core regional dispute through dialogue.
Amb. Khan said Pakistan wanted to work with the United States to bring peace to Afghanistan. As a victim of blowback from nearly 40 years of instability and violence in Afghanistan, Pakistan had long held that there was no military solution to the conflict. Pakistan was, therefore, committed to facilitating the Afghan peace process, which was ultimately the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in the region’s stability.
Sen. Romney thanked the Ambassador for his briefing. He agreed that sustained engagement between Pakistan and the United States remained critical to regional stability.
